Many on the left are now saying that former Vice President Joe Biden should have run against Republican Donald Trump in the 2016 election, and that he could have defeated Trump. It is certainly possible, as Biden would have been a much better candidate and Trump would have had to work harder to defeat him.
However, hindsight is of course 20/20 and these are the same people who did everything they could to block other candidates like Biden or Bernie Sanders from taking the Democratic nomination away from Hillary, who many people thought was somehow entitled to be the nominee.
Biden probably has some regret at not running against Hillary. In a recent interview, he shared some candid remarks about what he really thought about Clinton’s poorly conceived and ultimately unsuccessful campaign.
Said Biden about Hillary, “Everyone thinks it was just raw ambition on her part. I think she was sort of a prisoner of history; first woman who had a better-than-even chance of getting the nomination. First woman, relative to the Republican field, who had a better-than-even chance of being president.”
He continued, “There’s a lot of baggage, fair and unfair, and there was no illusion on her part, this wasn’t going to be a Marquess of Queensberry fight.” He then dropped his big insult, saying, “And so I never got the sense that there was any joy in her campaign. Maybe it’s me, but I find joy in doing this.” Ouch! Do you think Biden is correct about joyless Hillary who ran just for the sake of her own ambition?
