Villanueva Apologizes For Standing For National Anthem, He Did It “Unintentionally”

Alejandro Villanueva, a former army veteran made many fans very happy when he was the only player on his team to stand for the national anthem.

The Steelers coach, Mike Tomlin was furious because he was looking for 100% participation from his team in disrespecting our flag. Fans respected Villanueva for standing for what he believed in and his jersey sales went through the roof.

Unfortunately, he is now backtracking on what he did and claimed he stood for the National Anthem ‘unintentionally’.

“Unfortunately I threw my teammates under the bus, unintentionally.Every single time I see that picture of me standing by myself I feel embarrassed,” said Villanueva. “I will support all my teammates, and all my teammates and all my coaches have always supported me,’ said Villanueva,” he said.

“We as a team tried to figure it out, obviously we butchered it, I’m not gonna pretend I have some kind of righteous voice,” he said

He went on to argue that veterans shouldn’t take offense to people kneeling for the National Anthem. “I take no offense. I don’t think veterans at the end of the day take any offense. They actually signed up and fought so that somebody could take a knee and protest peacefully whatever it is that their hearts desire,” he said. “For anybody who thinks Coach Tomlin is not as patriotic as you can get in America, I’m offended by that,” said Villanueva. Are you disappointed in him?
